Poor packaging

Wyeast has changed their packaging. They’ve always had one inner pack that contains yeast nutrient which you break open by smacking the outer packaging. This allows the yeast to propagate while brewing and before pitching. Wyeast now inserts a second inner pack that contains yeast energizer. This pack is so thin it does not break by smacking the outer package. The yeast does not propagate as much as it used to before pitching and if you want to take advantage of the energizer, you have to pull it out of the package and open it with scissors which could introduce bacteria even if they’re sanitized.

Great Yeast

Ferments well for German and English style ales. Ideal for between 48-57F, will produce delicious fruity esters at warmer temps. Delayed start, ferments long to finish.

Sorry guys I got the German ale and Farmhouse ale in the same order, and I've only used the Farmhouse last week, so I dunno about the German ale yet, but I'm sure it's great I've always had good brews with Wyeast. I've been exploring bier de garde recipes lately and really liking the results, especially comparing it to my altbiers, which were good, but the Farmhouse connection is adding some great character.
