Saison experiment

This yeast is working away very well, and throwing some interesting esters. It’s a slow starter, but I don’t have any temperature control to get it up into it’s preferred range. That was kind of the point of my experiment with it, just wanted to see if I could still get it to throw saison esters, under stress from low temps. I’m very happy with how it’s going. Will purchase again.

The beer I made was Storm the Bastille Saison. The yeast makes all the difference in this beer. The flavor profile is important when making this beer and you really need to use the right yeast. Well, this is it, right here. Wyeast 3711 Freanc Saison. You can,t go wrong with this.

Remarkably efficient

I made up an all-grain batch of saison and wanted to be sure that it had a dry finish. The OG started quite a bit higher than I expected (1.062) and the 3711 got this down to 1.002 in less than two weeks.

To many variables, further testing required.

Shipment was delayed by the worst snow storm in 15 years #6inches #washingtonstate. Popped the pack and let it set for almost 5 hours. Not only did the pack not expand, but 2 days after pitching, I had to make a trip to the LHBS and grab a vial of whatever they had in stock. I may consider using it again if I brew this beer again, but I'm not convinced these snack packs are for me. I have never had an issue with my dry packets. 2.5 stars out of 5.
