Will make your brew day better!

I have had my Anvil Foundry 10.5 (220V) for over a year. I brew in my shop and no longer outside. Don't have to fight sunlight (I've skunked a beer from brewing outside). The Anvil Foundry is relatively easy to use even on the first try. Once you brew a few times you'll get the hang of it. I find my efficiencies are not as high as my all-grain setup, but it is much easier to use and control. Much easier! I get more more consistent results with the Anvil versus my old all-grain setup. My propane/cooler setup is harder to dial in and I waste way to much time to get better efficiencies for what? save a few $$ per batch... maybe? Definitely waste more time on my old all-grain setup (probably about 1-2 hours per brew day). I'm saying all this because the process is much more streamlined and faster with more consistent results, but at a lower efficiency using the Anvil Foundry(consistently 60-65% brewhouse efficiency). The system is easy enough to clean. You can setup the day before and set a timer for the strike water to be at temperature the next day when you start your brew day. A side note: I did brew one beer that was 17lbs. of grain (max is 16). It can be done, but it was definitely past the limit of the system. So, use your old mash tun for bigger beers. You can make bigger beers on the Foundry, but you'll need added sugars and extracts to get there, since you need to stay under 16 lbs. of grain. Very happy and wish I could have afforded the switch to electric years ago.

Stuck mashes

I have been homebrewing beer for over 4 years using the diy cooler and propane all grain system. I have been very happy with the anvil brewing system except for one thing. The false bottom is the same as the Blichman false bottom and at first I was very excited about it. It may be just me getting used to it but I have brewed two batches on it so far and I have had stuck mashes with both of them. I started with about a quarter pound of rice hulls with the mash but that still gave a stuck mash. I had to empty both of them out, rinse the false bottom out and add a pound of rice hulls in order to get any sort of a sparge. My grain mill is a credit card gap so I dont think too fine of a crush is the issue. I will just be adding a pound of rice hulls to every batch from now on.

So far so good. Love it that it’s compact and takes up little space to store. Love it!
