A common question we get asked at Midwest is "What equipment do I need to get started?" Below is a list of equipment that you'll need to get started. This is not the end-all/be-all of brewing, but a good place to start. Remember, most of these items can be bought in the equipment kits we offer.
- Brewing Kettle (at least 4 gallon capacity)
- Beer Recipe Kit
- Cleanser (ex: PBW or Oxygen Wash)
- Sanitizer (ex: Star San)
- 6.5 Gallon Primary Fermentor (bucket, carboy, or Big Mouth Bubbler)
- Racking Cane
- Siphon Tube
- Airlock or Carboy Bung
- Spoon
- Thermometer
- About 48 12 oz. Pry-top Bottles
- Bottling Bucket
- Bottle Filler
- Bottle Caps and Capper
- Bottle Brush
- Carboy Brush
While not absolutely necessary for brewing, the following equipment can improve your brewing experience and help you produce better beer. Most brewers will pick up this equipment shortly after their first brew.
